SZ-Aktion-Mein Lieblingsplatz - Mystical and always cool
SZ editor Mathias Winters finds it most beautiful on the Saar near Dreisbach.
When the heat paralyses almost everything, when every movement leads to sweating, then it is more beautiful here than anywhere else. The boat glides calmly across the water, we don't talk, we concentrate. It works best when all four of us are rowing in time. The Saar cools from below and the steep walls of the ever-mystical sandstone formations allow us to stay in the shade. The landscape is also worth seeing from the river on the tour starting in Dreisbach and heading towards Merzig. But from the boathouse in Dreisbach, which used to be a departure point for Olympic athletes, from here below Cloef and Montclair to the Mettlach lock - simply marvellous. Depending on how late it has become, we take a short break there before turning round, including an evening sunbath. On the return journey, passages with strokes full of power are inserted so that the shower is worthwhile and the beer afterwards is well deserved. On our river - a wonderful spot.
