The varied landscape and sweeping views take centre stage on this tour.
The Hausstadtertal loop starts at the Saargarten in Beckingen. This park, located directly on the river, is part of the international "Gardens without Borders" project and is particularly worth a visit for families with its play equipment and neighbouring football golf course. From here, the tour first heads to the barrage in Rehlingen. After changing sides of the Saar, you cycle along the Saar cycle path to the picturesque town of Merzig.
The route leads through the marina into the centre of Merzig. Passing the town hall and through the fantastic town park, you reach the historic centre of Merzig. The route continues along the Seffersbach stream past the Heilborn natural swimming pool in the direction of Brotdorf. Along the Merziger Kammerforst forest, the route turns off in the direction of Bachem. From Bachem, the route continues to Rimlingen up onto the Merching shell limestone plateau. From the Hungerberg, you have a wonderful 360-degree view of the region.
The route continues downhill past the Hargarten lime kiln to the village centre. The lime kiln, restored by the "Heimat- und Kulturverein", is one of a series of lime kilns that were built in the 19th and early 20th century to the west of the centre of Hargarten. After Hargarten, you turn into the wooded Hausstadter valley. After a beautiful forest passage, you reach the small Hellbach pond, which invites you to linger. Via Haustadt, the route continues slightly downhill through the valley back to the starting point on the Saar.
