Parish church of St. Lutwinus
The people of Mettlach are proud of their "cathedral", which was built at the turn of the century (1902) in the Rhenish neo-Romanesque style to a design by Mainz architect Ludwig Becker.
The Lutwinus Church surprises with a wide variety of neo-Romanesque forms and offers a rich palette of local mosaic art that can probably be described as northern of the Alps. These are depictions that have been applied as glass and clay pencil mosaics over the course of more than 50 years. In addition to these beautiful and rare mosaics, a cross reliquary, made around 1228, can be seen in the church. It is in the form of a triptych that resembles a flat chest with closed wings.
