The tour follows the "Viezstraße", a tourist route dedicated to cider, in a few places. Along the entertaining tour, there is always information on the topic of Viez and views of the apple trees.
The tour starts at the town hall in Merzig, leads through the town centre, past the parish church of St. Peter, which is well worth seeing, and then up to the Bietzerberg. With fantastic views of the Saar Valley, the Saargau and as far as France, the route runs uphill through meadows, fields and small sections of forest. The picturesque villages of Harlingen, Bietzen and Menningen are passed. Above Harlingen, one of our gourmet stops invites you to linger. In Saarfels, the route descends steeply again, past the Saargarten Beckingen. The open park is located directly on the banks of the Saar.
The E-bike route only goes upstream along the Saar for a short distance before crossing the Saar at the Rehlingen-Beckingen barrage and then travelling downstream on the Saar cycle path towards Merzig. Crossing the river again via the pedestrian bridge near Fremersdorf, the route returns to the right bank of the Saar and soon reaches the Bietzer Heilquelle with its healing waters. Soon afterwards, the starting point at the town hall is reached again.
