In the 1990s, the Villa Fuchs district cultural centre developed more and more into a cultural provider and service provider. Initially in the town of Merzig and later in all municipalities in the Merzig-Wadern district. Germany's best-known cabaret artists were guests on the cabaret stage in the Villa Fuchs. However, unknown up-and-coming artists were also given the opportunity to perform and present themselves to the public. The Kreiskulturzentrum Villa Fuchs has always seen itself as a promoter of regional artists and will continue to do so in the future.
Cultural initiatives such as Rock am See or Opera in the Circus Tent were co-organised and supported both financially and logistically. In addition, numerous cultural series were created during this time. The Luxembourg Film Festival caused a sensation in the district town from 1991 to 1994. The Merzig Children's and Cultural Summer is still an integral part of cultural life in the town of Merzig today. The Merzig Children's Festival has been organised every year by the Merzig Association since 1994. It is now one of the largest children's festivals in the Saarland. Every year, more than 3000 children come to the festival and enjoy the wide range of activities on offer.
Since 2009, the district cultural centre Villa Fuchs has been organising cultural activities in the town of Merzig on behalf of the district town of Merzig. It is responsible for the music and theatre series, numerous exhibitions and cultural events that attract attention beyond the city limits. A new addition in 2012 was the SaarSchleifenLand literature festival. At its premiere, the festival succeeded in attracting very high-calibre authors. The literature festival will certainly continue to have a firm place in the cultural calendar of the district town and the municipalities of the district in the coming years.
