The Wadrill Nazareth Chapel is a place of prayer and refuge for believers, but also a place of rest and relaxation for hikers, cyclists and walkers, who are afforded a magnificent view over the Wadrill Valley.
On the Wadrilltal-Tafeltour dream loop of the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig and on the Schiefer-Rundweg of the Heimat- und Naturfreunde (WA 7), built from the Waderner district towards Stückel and the wind turbines on the Felsenberg, the Nazareth Chapel, idyllically situated on the edge of the forest, is a good starting point for the two aforementioned circular hiking trails. Hikers and cyclists like to use the chapel as a place to rest and relax, writes SZ employee Erich Brücker on his suggestion for our SZ campaign "My favourite place". The chapel is also worth a walk for many Wadrill residents. Brücker: "From the benches in front of the chapel, visitors can enjoy far-reaching and beautiful views over the Hochwald village, into the Wadrill valley towards Wadern, and beyond to the district of Reidelbach." In addition, the wind turbines on the Schimmelkopf can be seen over the roofs of Weiskirchen from there. The chapel, which is dedicated to the Holy Family, is primarily a place of prayer and refuge for the faithful. It celebrated its 25th anniversary in August. It was built by the Nazareth Association in 1994, and the foundation stone with the inscription "In the year of the family - Jesus Mary Joseph blesses the family" was laid the following February. In December 1999, the Episcopal Vicariate General authorised the blessing. This took place in August 2000 with great participation from the population. With the construction of the chapel, for which a wayside shrine (pictured right) had already been erected in 1985, the Nazareth Association is continuing a tradition and replacing an old Maria Hilf chapel with the new chapel, which was built in 1867 on Sitzerather Straße and had to give way in 1938 when the first Wadrill sports ground was built. The altarpiece depicts the Holy Family and the bell depicts their flight from Egypt. A statue of the Virgin Mary from the old chapel adorns the altar, along with a Stations of the Cross. The mysteries of the joyful rosary are depicted in the windows of the chapel.
