SZ-Aktion-Mein Lieblingsplatz - Enjoy history in peace and quiet
Sure: the burial mounds near Oberlöstern are not necessarily the first thing that springs to mind when it comes to traces of the Romans in the Merzig-Wadern district. But a visit to the site, which was reconstructed around 20 years ago, is definitely worthwhile - because the location just behind Oberlöstern has a lot to offer in terms of detail.
In addition to the burial mounds, there is an information board with all kinds of interesting facts about their history and origins - and the best thing about it is that you have all the time in the world and heavenly peace and quiet to get to grips with the subject and also enjoy the nature around the two burial mounds.
On one side, there is a very nice view of Oberlöstern itself and the surrounding area, and on the other, woods and fields. As the burial mounds are a good distance away from the village, there is hardly anything to hear apart from the wind in the trees, the chirping of insects and the twittering of the odd bird - at least on the days I have been to the burial mounds so far, there have hardly been any other people to be seen.
This combination of a bit of history and a bit of a view in all the tranquillity that nature offers: Hardly any other spot in the district can manage that.
