Railroad museum information board
The Losheim am See Railway Museum is located on the former premises of the Merzig-Büschfeld railroad in the center of Losheim am See.
The museum is part of the Losheim am See adventure station, which also includes the Eisenbahnhalle cultural center and the Losheim museum railway.
The museum shows photos, documents, films and exhibits from the history of the Merzig-Büschfeld railway and Saarland railway history.
On the grounds of the museum, 4 steam locomotives, several diesel locomotives and numerous passenger and baggage carriages can be seen. The former workshops are still preserved and are now used by the Losheim Museum Railway Club to refurbish historic carriages. Rarities such as the historic forge can also be viewed here.
The Railway Post Museum of the Federal Railway Post Association is located in the museum area. Two railway post carriages of the 55 and 67 series are here, completely furnished as they were in former service, thus providing an authentic picture of postal history.
The two carriages are unique exhibits in this condition.
The club's fleet is supplemented by a passenger car from 1903 and so-called Donnerbüchsen from 1921 to 1930, which thus has a stylish, 2-axle carriage set.
Since June 12, 1982, the Losheim Museum Railway Club has been operating steam locomotive-powered museum trips on the railway facilities of the former Merzig-Büschfelder Railway (MBE). And since 1984, the steam locomotive "34" from 1948 and the steam locomotive "26" from 1937, two former steam locomotives from the Saarbergwerke, have been in working order.
In addition to regular operating days, the museum railway can also be booked by groups several times a year and used as a photo location.
