From the starting point at Lake Noswendel, the route heads towards Bardenbach. Nestled in the charming Prims valley, the route leads through the village to the "Bardenbacher Fels" nature reserve. The "Bardenbacher Fels" dream loop of the same name also starts here. The trail leads along the Prims, a tributary of the Saar, to Buttnich. Around the industrial area, the next stage destination is Dagstuhl Castle. At the foot of the ruins of Dagstuhl Castle, a manor house of the same name was built around 1760: Dagstuhl Castle, which is now an international meeting and research centre for computer science. The chapel on the grounds is particularly worth a visit and is open daily from 10 am to 4 pm. The façade features elements of the late baroque style. Inside, works by the "painter countess" Octavie des Lasalle adorn the walls and ceilings. Several of her garden paintings, after which the freely accessible palace garden was designed, also originate from her artistic work. Only the castle chapel is freely accessible/open. Opposite the castle, on an area of 1,500 m², is the castle garden, which is part of the "Gardens without Borders" network.
Climb up towards the ruins of Dagstuhl Castle. First mentioned in documents in 1290, Dagstuhl Castle was built around 1280 by the knight Boemund von Saarbrücken as an outpost of the rule of the Elector and Archbishop of Trier. A short detour over the imposing bridges to the castle ruins is well worthwhile. The route continues into the town centre of Wadern. A number of regional refreshment stops await you on the historic market square. The route continues past the town centre across meadows to Morscholz. From here, you return to the starting point at Lake Noswendel through a beautiful forest landscape.
