Details der Tour
From the starting point at the Cloef Atrium, the cycle tour leads along the Saarland cycle path through forests and meadows towards Faha. From Faha, the route continues to Kesslingen. Passing the restored Jakobsbrunnen fountain, there is a gourmet station at the Kesslingen refuge with regional delicacies to familiarise yourself with the flowing delights of the region. The listed village chapel of St James dates back to the 18th century with its ornate slate tower, late Gothic choir and neo-Gothic portal from the 19th century with a split spire (tent roof, continued on eight sides with onion domes, lanterns and spire) and a wooden pillar altar with a Roman inscription stone as the base of the altar. A group of figures made of oak wood depicts the "seven sleepers" and is a reminder of Keßlingen as a place of pilgrimage in earlier times. The Keßlingen chapel is closely linked to the Way of St James through its patron saint, St James.
The route continues through Oberleuken to Borg. The Roman villa in Borg is a real highlight of the tour. It is the only completely reconstructed manor area of an ancient villa complex; even in Italy, the heartland of the Roman Empire, there is nothing comparable. With its gatehouse, museum-like manor house, Roman baths, latrine, Roman kitchen, craftsmen's huts and Roman gardens, the Villa Borg is the ideal setting for experiencing everyday life in Rome. At the end of the tour, an original Roman dish such as spicy Lucanian sausages awaits you in the tavern.
The route continues along the Saarland cycle path to Eft and on to Hellendorf. Here, the Sonnenhof invites you to stop for a regional break. The route continues along the ammunition depot of the German Armed Forces through a beautiful wooded area back to Orscholz. Shortly before Orscholz, a small highlight of the tour awaits at an idyllic fish pond with the Höcker Line. The Höcker Line in Orscholz was part of the Siegfried Line as a concreted anti-tank obstacle. A particularly well-preserved section over a kilometre long has been uncovered and made accessible with a path. The themed circular hiking trail completes the offer.
You return to Orscholz via a forest passage. The tour ends with a walk through the town centre to the Saarland's landmark. At the Cloef Atrium, the Regiothek and the Bistro Mirabell invite you to round off the tour.
